final FINAL draft

February 7, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Miami Beach Senior High School has undergone a series of various changes over the past couple of months. Beach High is now a brand new high school which includes; two new buildings, spotless classrooms and a large, state of the art library.                          “The new school is big, beautiful and is state of the art. There are small items that must be repaired. However, the new facility is a vast improvement over the old facility” stated, Assistant Principal, Mr. Patrice.  The final product is expected to be completed by August 2009, which will include the brand new gym, cafeteria and the renovations of other areas in the school.  Beach High has gained two new buildings which contain 115 classrooms in total and hold more than 1,967 students daily. The new library is also an upgrade as it is now home to 42 brand new, state of the art, HP computers.” The new library is a bright spot in my day as well as a brighter spot for the students and staff. The increased size allows space for expansion. Getting it set up is a job- an enjoyable one” responded the schools head librarian, Mrs. Felts, when asked about her thoughts on the new library.                Teachers seem to have also benefited from the move .Each classroom is now fully equipped with brand new desks, personal computers, and a smart board. ” New room is much nicer – clean and cheerful. While we have a few lingering problems with technology installations, everything else is great!” stated AP Environmental teacher, Mr.Guthrie. Mr. Patrice also seems to agree with the statement. He says that the “science classrooms and the performing art rooms are especially nice.”                                        Although the new building can be considered a success, we must keep in mind that this is only the beginning and we can expect much more. ” Students must keep in mind; this is only the first phase of construction. We will be getting a new cafeteria and new gym. All other areas of the school will get renovated.” stated Mr. Patrice.  However, the new buildings have also had their share of minor but irritating problems such as the temporary lack of water in the drinking fountains and the dysfunctional air conditioning system. One of the issues with the new school has been the constant disruption of class due to the fire alarm system. Junior, Priscilla Deonarine, stated ” When a bell sounds like a fire alarm and a fire alarm appears like  a dismissal bell there’s confusion and havoc” . There are also numerous complaints from the students regarding the size of the buildings and construction during school hours. ” I think that doing construction while were in class is dangerous .. Also, the noises are really disruptive” commented Freshmen, Sloanne Carries.                       Overall, the new school is being held to high standards by most and up until now has exceeded expectations. Assistant Principal, Ms. Robins stated” The new building is like a breath of fresh air for the school!”

Reflection: Beach High Article

Reflection Piece

               Journal Entry #345

                January 25, 2008

Coming up with a concept for a story is harder than I had imagined it would be!. I know that there is a story anywhere we look but they are harder to find once you actually go looking for one. I had a couple of “good” ideas but none seemed to work out. So, I guess I’ll just write about the new, boring old building .

               Journal Entry #346

                January 30, 2008

First drafts are difficult .. There are about a million things that I need to think about before I can actually write something down on paper. Questions, questions .. Im looking for questions!?, I have many, but none of them have to do with my article. Well, lets start with the basics ; 5 W’s and an H ! Aha, and so the plan reveals itself ..

                Journal Entry #347

                January 31, 2008

Nope, still nothing, just kidding !. I developed my questions and I know exactly who to ask ! , now I just have to find them .. Their always busy its gets kind of tedious having to sit outside of an office wondering when they will be ready to speak to you or if you have adequate questions that wont make you look like a complete dunce in front of very important people and hopefully your breath doesn’t smell like lunch, that would be a bummer.

             Journal Entry #348

              February 4, 2008

Since it is nearly mission impossible to be able to speak with anyone in the office during school hours, I decide to hang around after school for a while. Lucky me, all the other non- journalist kids get to go home at 2:30 but I have to stay until 4 to be able to get 5 minutes with Mr. Patrice ?!. All in a days work, I guess?. Anyway, I got my qoutes, I got my qoutes ! Now I can write.

              Journal Entry #349

               February 4, 2008

Second draft done .. SCORE !

              Journal Entry# 350

                February 6, 2008

Final Draft COMPLETE ! I think I have a pretty decent story , not the most amazing piece of literature ever but a slammin article, I think ? Now, I just need to write that darn reflection piece, Oh.

FINAL DRAFT

Miami Beach Senior High School has undergone a series of various changes over the past couple of months. Beach High is now a brand new high school which includes; two new buildings, spotless classrooms and a large, state of the art library.     [ Quote along here -> Dr. Sidener’s statement will be inserted here to show a positive point of view regarding the new school. I will be asking her what her thoughts are on the new building and more than likely she will respond with an elaborate and POSITIVE answer which will be placed at the end of this paragraph]

“The new school is big, beautiful and is state of the art. There are small items that must be repaired. However, the new facility is a vast improvement over the old facility”  stated, Assistant Principal, Mr. Patrice. Everyone seems to be extremely satisfied with the outcome of the new school. SHOW NOT TELL [ Shhh ]

January 31, 2008 · Leave a Comment

” Today, our computers started working” ..

After three weeks of tedious  ”busy work”, Mr. Weiss’s Journalism 1 class was relieved at the sight of working computers. ” Paper and Journalism just dont go!” was exalted by a joyful,  Joselyn Martinez. A course such a journalism strictly depends on the availability of working computers. “Lack of computers is totally lame” was stated by journalism teacher, Andy Weiss. ” The progress of the newspaper depends on the students being able to meet certain deadlines, if the computers aren’t available to them during class time things get backed up and the newspaper suffers the consequences”.
